We spent my first day in the Cairo`s zoo. It was a warm, sunny day with 14 degrees, but I still felt cold from the strong dry wind, blowing all the time. I felt happy with my friend, who behaved kindly and gently with me. We had a chance to take many photos with my camera. Now when I`m here again, I like looking at them and remembering that special time in my life. The feeling, which hides inside the memories and the past, is different, more romantic and nostalgic. In the zoo, we watched many “Egyptian” animals such as big and dangerous crocodiles, different kinds of snakes, monkeys, a black elephant, and birds. When we went out it was already a late afternoon.
Now I decide to look in the encyclopedia to learn more about this place, and I found that Cairo is an ancient city, actually the largest one in the Arabic World. It consists from a huge city centre and many suburbs. Its population numbers over than 7 million inhabitants, which makes Cairo also the biggest city in whole Africa. The city is located on the river Nile, a holy river for the ancient Egyptians. The hieroglyph for the water and river is “mu”, and it is a drawing of three waves. The name “Cairo” comes from Arabic transliteration “Al-Qahira” and means “the triumphant”. It is a real triumph to conquer this famous place in North Africa.
Another interesting and beautiful place the tourist should visit is the Egyptian museum in Cairo (with the biggest collection of ancient Egyptian art works, statues of Pharaohs and Gods, famous scriptures on stone walls and obelisks)…A whole day is not enough for a visitor to see all special pieces of art inside the museum, but it worth. We also visited Cairo`s ancient Coptic churches, Arabic Bookshops (which offered also English translations), the Opera and the theatre, the Modern art gallery (where I took many pictures of the paintings from the 20th and the 21st century), and of course the incredible and magical area of the Pyramids and Sphinx in Giza. All I have seen in Cairo, this colorful city, mixture of ancient and modern civilization, left a deep impression in my mind. I will not forget my travel adventure there…Maybe my future will lead me to see it again.
